This is an exercise bike (ergometer) for movement therapy of the upper and lower limbs. The main feature of this model is the arm ergometer, which has a second, independent motor for moving the arms. The device allows cycling exercises with both the legs and the arms, from a seated or semi-reclined position. The device can be used while the patient remains seated in his or her own wheelchair. In this model for leg and arm training, both the arm ergometer (including motor and handles) and the motor for leg training are integrated into the construction. For arm exercises, MotoLife® enables a passive pedalling movement if there is no residual motor activity. When the user is able to pedal – even with little muscle strength of their own – the motor provides support in starting and maintaining the movement at a preset speed (assisted movement). If the user reaches a higher speed than the set speed, the motor generates an adjustable resistance; this can be adjusted to improve muscle work and cardiopulmonary efficiency (active kinesitherapy).
